Corrections

If something on this site is wrong, outdated, or unclear, we want to know. Include the page address and what looks incorrect, and we will review and fix it.

Privacy and advertising

Requests about your personal data, or questions about the ads shown on this site, reach us at the same address. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.

Helping us help you

If you are asking about a growing problem, it saves a round trip if you tell us your climate or region, whether the plant is in a pot or the ground, how long you have had it, and what the plant looks like now. For a question about a specific page, paste the page address so we know exactly what you are reading.

What we cannot help with

We cannot give medical, dietary or nutritional advice for your personal situation, and we will not try. If you are asking whether dragon fruit is appropriate for a medical condition, a medication you take, or a pregnancy, please speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian. Our Disclaimer explains the limits of what we publish. We also do not sell dragon fruit, plants or cuttings.

Privacy of your message

When you email us we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not pass it to anyone else. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Questions we are asked most often

Before you write, it is worth checking whether one of these covers your question — these five account for most of the email we receive.

My dragon fruit was white inside, not red. Was I sold the wrong thing?

Almost certainly not. Skin colour does not indicate flesh colour — a pink-skinned dragon fruit is more often white-fleshed than red. They are two different species that look nearly identical from the outside. Our guide to the colour varieties explains how to tell them apart and how to buy the one you want.

Mine tasted of almost nothing. What went wrong?

Usually one of three things: it was underripe, it was a white-fleshed variety, or you ate it at room temperature. Dragon fruit barely sweetens after picking, so a hard fruit will soften but never get much sweeter. See what dragon fruit tastes like.

My plant flowers beautifully but never sets fruit.

Most dragon fruit cultivars cannot pollinate themselves. You need a second, different cultivar nearby, or you need to hand-pollinate at night with a small brush while the flower is open — it closes by morning and does not reopen. Our plant care guide covers the method.

Is the dragonfruit refresher I bought caffeinated?

The fruit contains none, but nearly every chain refresher does — the base typically contains green coffee or green tea extract. See caffeine in dragonfruit refreshers.

Something I ate turned pink afterwards. Should I be worried?

This is harmless and very common with red-fleshed dragon fruit. The betacyanin pigment passes through largely intact, exactly as beetroot does, and can tint urine or stool for a day. It is not blood. If the discolouration persists beyond that or you have other symptoms, see a doctor.
